ANNABELLE SEUBERT: Neighbors at a second glance
Exhibition at Haus am Lützowplatz
in: Der Tagesspiegel, Berlin, am 17.11.2009
In the exhibition "Neighborhoods. In Berlin (West), West Berlin, West Berlin" in the Haus am Lützowplatz ... the paintings, installations and photographs hang ... hang somewhat forlornly next to each other, remain mute individual pieces.
Yet the keyword "neighborhoods" suggests familiarity and harmony. Especially because the 16 artists to whom the exhibition is dedicated were part of the same scene in West Berlin in the seventies and eighties ...
Of course, this also develops a picture about liberality, lifestyle, communes, art and red wine. Nevertheless, one would like to see a show of works that immediately reveals this proximity. Spinning the networks between the people, answering who was friends with whom, where and how. But maybe that's just the way it is with neighbors. You think you know each other, but you hardly know each other.
